Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown

1924 – 2005

A native of Vinton, in Calcasieu Parish, Brown was often identified as a blues guitarist only, although he was also a master of country music and jazz, while his fiddle-playing drew on Cajun music and zydeco, and bluegrass. Brown was also a compelling vocalist, although most of his signature songs, such as “Okie Dokie Stomp,” were instrumentals.
