Eddie Morris

1896 – 1987

Born in Algiers, Louisiana, trombonist Eddie Morris (1896-1987) started on cornet but switched to trombone around 1916 due to his admiration for Ernest Kelly, which led to lessons with James Brown Humphrey. In his early days, he played with the Silver Leaf Band and with Jesse Jackson’s Golden Leaf Band. He was with Punch Miller in the early 1920s, worked with Henry Kid Rena in 1927-28, and with Buddie Petit until 1931. In later years he led his own dance band and performed with the E. Gibson Brass Band in the 1950s and 60s.
