When The Saints Go Marching In

“When The Saints Go Marching In” is one of many gospel songs to be adapted by New Orleans jazz groups and jazz brass-bands in the late nineteenth – early twentieth centuries. But no other such song has achieved such anthemic popularity or lent its name to a professional football team (the New Orleans Saints.) Any band performing in virtually any genre in New Orleans is expected to be able to play “When The Saints Go Marching In” upon request.
