A native of Evangeline Parish, Inez Catalon was one of the last practitioners to learn traditional the traditional a cappella Creole repertoire strictly from oral tradition. She sang cantiques, ballads, lullabies and historic songs, representing a tradition of Louisiana “home music” performed predominately by women.
